So as you may have noticed, or may not have, more recently my posting here has become more sporadic. This is not as much due to general ennui and malaise as it is trying to experiment with stand-up comedy, which is a much bigger time drain than I realized. But it is nice to see an instant reaction to jokes, as opposed to a like here, a retweet here, an upvote here. I’ll try to post M-W-F when possible, but things may just be less reliable for a little while until something gives.
As you may or may not know, a couple weeks ago the hosting platform for my comic, ComicPress, updated it’s software and all my stuff on here got super messed up! But with the help of the developer and me nooding around on the site, I have made things ALMOST back to normal.
The most important thing is I migrated all the old comics, and it appears more or less like it used to. The beloved flaming logo is smaller and I’m not sure if I can embiggen it, and some things just look generally weirder… but it’s a start.
The google analytics has been down, and the archive listing also got completely shot, so I’m trying to rebuild it, in pretty pretty colors, but it may take some time. After all, it requires I add a separate link for each one of all the comics I’ve ever drawn, one by one. If you are or know anyone is a programmer or code-knowledgeable person who wants to help, please don’t hesitate to message me! Otherwise, just hang in there!
Exciting things are on the way! What things, you may ask? Nothing, that’s what. I think that’s kind of exciting on an existential level.
Oh, also I started drawing a Jewish humor comic called Chutzpah! Now I don’t have to post those jokes here, so Turbo Sloth is now more shiksa-friendly. Chutzpah updates Tuesdays and Thursdays, meaning I somehow tricked myself into drawing 5 days a week again. Yay?
Okay I don’t actually have T-shirts. But I am back, and have working internet after moving to the beautiful, exciting town of Hartford, CT for my internship. I had a long, maddening correspondence with Comcast, but if it wasn’t that way, I suppose it wouldn’t feel like an authentic Comcast experience. I think my enraged tweet (Note: “Enraged Tweet” would NOT make a good band name, don’t get any ideas) sums it up pretty nicely.
“I SWEAR TO GOD I’M GOING TO RIP THE EYES OUT OF EVERY COMCAST REP THEN WRAP THEIR OCULAR NERVES AROUND THEIR NUTS & KICK THEM IN THE OCUNUTS”
They told me that I would have to wait another week for internet but I found a way around that, and, well, here I am. So enjoy your regularly scheduled comics and whatnot.
In a few hours, I am leaving for a weeklong service trip to Panama! I’m not sure how updating will be, but I have at least made a feeble attempt to queue up some comics while I’m gone, even though I’ll admit they’re not my best. But hope you enjoy them nonetheless and regular comics/updates will resume Thursday April 25th.
Ah, that’s better.
I’m glad to say that I have been able to turn down the frenetic pace of my comic drawing without the sky falling. Three times a week has been much more manageable and nobody seems to mind much.
My friends’ continued support and some nice visitors from Reddit have helped Turbo Sloth to reach it’s highest traffic totals over the past two months, with an all-time high of over 28,000 visits and 100,000 pageviews this month! That’s about 10X what I had this same time last year, and is extra motivation for me to keep drawing.
That being said, I lost my tablet pen and am waiting for a new one, so the latest batch may be mouse drawn… just like I used to do. Also, I’ll be going to Panama in 2 ½ weeks and will not have a computer… I’ll see if I can get the comics to post themselves or something. And of course I’ll let you know if I am fortunate to see a sloth, whether it’s Turbo or just the regular type.
Y’all may have realized that I am not actually southern and just like pretending I am… spirit of the Holiday I guess (Daylight Savings Time is the farmers’ fault after all)
February was a good month for Turbo Sloth, with the highest monthly total traffic in our 3 year history! Perhaps every day comics helped that, perhaps it was just a coincidence. But you may have noticed there were only THREE comics this week! Like, what the hell?
If I got paid to do this, I could draw a comic every day. But I don’t! And three a week is much more practical for me than one every day, at the end of the day. Sorry! But it was a fun experiment and I’m surprised I was able to keep it consistently running like that for two and a half months! Rock on, beautiful peoples.
P.S. I may be writing this with a hangover so excuse everything I do that you don’t like.
That’s right… This webcomic was launched Valentine’s Day 2010, and has been running non-stop other than one short hiatus in December 2011 and one longer hiatus in Fall 2012. It’s been fun and a learning process.
Since December 26th comics have been posted every weekday, meaning that I have to draw 5 every week. I am not sure if this is something that will continue, since I’m not sure if I’ll continue to have enough time to pump them out that fast… I currently have a huge backlog but it’s steadily shrinking. Anyway, let me know if any of y’all have ideas for things I can add or change to improve your Turbo Sloth experience!
When I re-booted the site on December 26th, switching to a 5-comic-a-week format (as opposed to the 3-comic-a-week format I had been doing for over 2 1/2 years), I didn’t think I’d be able to draw enough comics to keep it going.
Well now, not only has membership to the (Turbo Sloth facebook fan page) near-doubled from 80 to a WHOPPING 139 members, but I happen to have the biggest comic backlog in Turbo Sloth’s history, with OVER FIFTY comics that I have drawn and NOT YET POSTED! How can you not spontaneously combust from the suspense?!
…Okay, assuming you haven’t yet exploded into a million bite-sized pieces, this is 100% due to the fact that I have been on a very long winter break for the past 5 weeks, so I’m hoping it will be enough to keep me going through my last semester as I get busier. I’ll just try to draw one everyday, and try to make them funny. I’ll keep you posted with how that goes.
